2020 Cybersecurity Summer Camp for Nigerian Kids

Register to join our 2020 cybersecurity summer camp for kids. It is a one-week intensive camp designed for kids between the ages of 10 and 17. The primary goal of this camp is to teach these kids how to think like an ethical cyber-attacker so that they can be cybersecurity ambassadors as well as desire to pursue a career in information and cybersecurity. We also intend to increase interest in cybersecurity career and increase the diversity in the cybersecurity workforce, ensuring that enough young people are inspired to direct their talents in this area which is critical to the future of our country’s national and economic security as we become even more reliant on cyber-based technology in every aspect of our daily lives.

During the sessions, the youngsters will discover the history of cybersecurity, and all the skill sets leading to its career. They will be exposed to techniques to hide and protect information in every device or repository and its asset, create secret messages, and share plans with classmates on how to always stay one step ahead of would-be cyber attacks. In addition, they will learn how to encrypt data with programs and computers and see how it relates to modern cybersecurity.

Workshop Coverage

The kids will learn the following skills:

  • Introduction to cybersecurity and the principles of cybersecurity
  • Possible career in cybersecurity and their respective impact and benefit to our society
  • Potential influence of those that rose to the top of cybersecurity career
  • Potential startups and entrepreneurship from cybersecurity
  • Cyber ethics and Cyber-threats
  • Introduction to command-line structures and security
  • Cipher and algorithm creation
  • How to encrypt and decrypt messages while they are in destination
  • Network, security and Port scanning
  • The concepts of ethical hacking
  • The basics of the Python, Java, C# and Swift programming languages
  • The fundamentals of cryptography
  • Social media security
  • Hack-a-thon

Date And Time

Classes and workshops are scheduled in batches:

  • Batch 1: August 10 to 14, 2020, between 10 am to 4pm
  • Batch 2: August 17 to 21, 2020, between 10 am to 4pm
  • Batch 3: August 24 to 28, 2020, between 10 am to 4pm

Open Demos

At the beginning of each day, presenters give technical demonstrations to show in-demand skills students will develop.

Workshop and Teaching Sessions

Students will be offered five to 6 hours workshops for each day. There will be breaking sessions in between for group tasks.

Mentorship

Students will pick or be assigned projects based off the classes on Friday(at the end of each batch’s program). Mentors will provide hands-on guidance and technical direction toward their project goals.

2020 Venue

Hacker Lab’s location is at Mitiget’s Training Center, Ceflix-Scepter Center, 26 Ize Iyamu Street, Off Billings Way, Oregun Lagos Nigeria.

Age Group

Programs focus on teaching students between the ages of 10 and 17.

Frequently Asked Question (FAQ)


How much is each kid’s fee per batch of the program?
Just =N=30, 000 per student.

Do I have to bring a laptop?
No, but we highly encourage it.

What are the ages of the participants?
10 to 17, but we’re not checking IDs.

Do I have to bring my kid all the days of the week long program?
Yes. You will drop off your kid in the morning and pick them at the end of the day’s sessions as timed.

Is my child or children secured while at the training center and through the program?
Yes. We do not take security lightly. We require the profile of the persons or parents that will be dropping off the kids daily and picking them after the sessions. We have strict controls in securing kids in our training facility.

Do I have to be present if my kid is there?
You’re welcome to stay but you can drop your child off. Parents will not be allowed to attend the workshops.

Will food be served?
Yes, we will serve refreshments at breaks then a lunch. Snacks will be served throughout the day. If your child has dietary restrictions, please plan accordingly.
